Robonova support

•July 29, 2008 • Leave a Comment

robotFoundry will support Hitec’s Robonova humanoid. Users will be able to program higher level functionality for the RN1, test in robotSim and run on the real robot. Users will need either a wired or wireless serial connection to communicate with the RN1.

We will be supporting python and java module creation in robotFoundry, we are not sure if these features will make the 1.5 version release, but they will be available shortly after.

Generic runtime and cross platform serial ports

•July 14, 2008 • Leave a Comment

On thing that we are working on and that is a problem for developing cross platform code is OS specific serial ports. If code is targeted for OSX then taking that code and running it under windows will not work.

To remedy this we are going to introduce configuration files in to our runtime system. There developers will be able to either using a generic cross platform serial port or OS specific ports.
Hopefully we will have a beta of this in robotFoundry 1.2

robotFoundry Game Edition

•June 10, 2008 • 1 Comment

So we have been working on a Artificial intelligence based FPS game called AI Apocalypse.

The game is a multiplayer tank battle game where a player controls a tank and has a AI driven companion tank that fights along side the player.  This is a different from the other AI configured games in that there must always be a human controlling one tank out of the pair and means that the games will always have a social component ( not just one human against an arena of bots).

We have enabled robotFoundry to program the companion tank and it will be ready when the game is released (Aug 2008 )

Here are a couple of screenshots of the game.

Today, we completed the integration of  player/stage and robotFoundry.  This driver and source will be made available  in our next release.

I have attached a screen shot of a tele-operated robot that has been developed with robotFoundry and running in player/stage.

Enjoy!!

Progress on the robotFoundry Player/Stage driver

•May 19, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Just a quick update on the progress of the player/stage driver for robotFoundry.  Today we have successfully interfaced some of the player/stagee proxies with robotFoundry and have generated robot code that can control and operate player/stage based robots.  So far we have connected to the stage simulator as a test and the driver works as expected.

We hope to have the driver completed soon and released within a couple of weeks.  We will post screen shots and keep updating our progress

The Cogmation Team

Linux Runtime

•May 13, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Following Cogmation’s vision of cross platform robotics, we are working on a Linux runtime.  This runtime will consist of the robotFoundry, openCV and the player-stage client libraries.

Now developers will be able to develop robots for OS X, Linux and Windows based operating systems using robotFoundry.

The Linux runtime will be supported on open SUSE 10.3 and Ubuntu 8.04.

robotFoundry to support Player (robot device interface) robots

•May 13, 2008 • 1 Comment

We are busy working on allowing people to develop player robots in robotFoundry.  We will be supporting version 2.05 of the player client.  This will allow people to connect to local and remote player based robots, as well as the player-stage simulator.

The robotFoundry playerstage client plugin will be supported on OS X ( 10.4 and 10.5) and Linux ( open SUSE 10.3 and Ubuntu 8.04).

The robotFoundry player/stage driver ( libplayerc addon) code will be open to allow developers to modify the driver for their own needs.
